GUSTAV 111

 
Gustav III anses vara en av de mest begåvade och aktiva  kungarna i den svenska historien.

Han föddes den 13 januari 1746 och dog 29 mars 1792. Han var Sveriges kung åren 1771 --  1792. Gustav var son till Adolf Fredrik och Lovisa Ulrika, bror till Karl Xlll, far till Gustav lV Adolf.och kusin till Katarina ll av Ryssland.

Gustav lll hade ett stort kulturintresse, främst teater där han själv önskade leda teaterverksamheten vid Drottningholms och Gripsholms slottsteater samt Operan vid Kungliga Teatern. Han var verksam som författare, aktör och regissör. Sina första pjäser skrev han på franska redan som barn. Den första komedien, Le jeune Seigneur, skildrar med munter självironi hans vardag som tioårig pojke, som hellre spelar teater än studerar.

Gustav III beskyddade svenska konstnärer och inkallade även framstående utlänningar, bland andra Louis Jean Desprez, Louis Masreliez, Johann Gottlieb Naumann, och förvärvade genom inköp i Italien en mängd antika skulpturarbeten av stort konstvärde.. En staty över Gustav III, skapad av Johan Tobias Sergel restes i Stockholm 1808. 

Gustav lll var en av Sveriges yppersta politiska talare. För att "arbeta uppå Svenska Språkets renhet, styrka och höghet" instiftade han år 1786 Svenska Akademien.. 

 

Gustav III sköts vid en maskeradbal på Operan i Stockholm den 16 mars 1792 av adelsmannen  Jacob Johan Anckarström och avled två veckor senare.
